HOW ARE THE POINTS CALCULATED?

Over the course of each ATPA Season all competitors accrue points based on their placing in each event at each tractor pull.  These points are totalled and the overall highest point’s scorers (at the end of the season) in each vehicle category are awarded the Puller of the Year.

There is also a special award for those competitors who attend each tractor pull and have their vehicle compete (hook up to the sled) in each event.  This award is known as the Hooker of the Year.

The following provides the basic rules that apply to points scoring, for more detailed information please refer to the ATPA Rule Book;

Puller and Hooker of the Year Awards.

1.      In the event that there are less than eight tractors/trucks competing in a class, then the last tractor/truck receives the points for eighth place, the second last receives the points for seventh place. This method is used to keep Puller points more competitive in smaller fields.

2.      In the event that two (2) or more tractors / trucks gain equal position then the points should be added together and divided by the number of equal tractors / trucks, i e. Two (2) tractors tie (are equal) for 2nd place, the points for 2nd and 3rd would be added and divided by 2, the next placed tractor would get 4th position points.

3.      Where a promoter provides only a Super Modified Class or an Open Modified Class, then all tractors shall be allocated placing points according to the class that the tractor is registered in. That is if an Open Class and Super Modified event are run concurrently and a Super Modified opts to run as an Open tractor, then it must get points for the Open class only. In the situation where pulling vehicles pull in more than one class, the points will only be allocated in the class in which the vehicle is registered.

4.      At all tractor pulls, 7.5%of the total money offered is to be paid to the ATPA Inc.  These funds are to be utilised by the ATPA for provision of Hooker and Puller Awards at the Annual General Meeting of the ATPA.

5.      One hook point is awarded for each event that a tractor hooks to the sled (not including test pulls and pull offs). The vehicle must hook to the sled and make a measurable pull (10 cm. or greater) and meet the weight requirements of that class.

6.      Each tractor shall receive “Puller” points upon entry and appearance at the tractor pull event on the day with the intention of competing and must meet the weight requirements of each class entered.

7.      If a tractor breaks down or is disqualified (out of bounds) during a pull off, he/she is entitled to all puller points already received. E.g: if the tractor is holding third place, and pulling for second then he/she gains third place if beaten in a pull off due to breakdown or disqualification. (Out of bounds ONLY).

8.      A puller who breaks down and is unable to compete in a pull off, holds points for whatever position he / she is relegated to by the pull off.

9.      If when making a test pull, a tractor runs off the track, it is NOT disqualified by virtue of   being the test puller. The tractor is then able to take its second and official pull which relevant Puller and Hooker points will be awarded.

10.  In the event of a tractor being disqualified (Out of Bounds ONLY), the tractor receives appearance and hook point, except in a pull off.

11.  In the case off break down, during competition, puller /appearance points and hook point are awarded for that event. Any subsequent event he/she was entered in, this includes breakdown any time after arrival at the pull site, will receive appearance points but not hook points.

NOTE- Points are allocated on the number of tractors / trucks competing (or intending to compete) on the day. E.g. If eight tractors are entered and one breaks down in the first weight class, then the first place in subsequent class will receive 30 pts (Major), 20 pts (Minor), and so on.

Points are awarded as follows;
